City Lights and Senior Sights: A Downtown Raleigh Session with Juan

There is no greater compliment for a Raleigh senior photographer than when a family returns for a second session. Last year, I had the pleasure of capturing Juan’s sister for her portraits. When the family reached out from Johnston County to schedule Juan’s turn, I was beyond honored to keep the tradition going!

A Natural Behind the Lens Juan represents the best of the Class of 2026 at North Johnston High School. He is a young man with a traveler’s heart and a genuine appreciation for the world around him. You can tell he really “lives” in the moment, which makes my job as a Raleigh senior photographer incredibly easy. He stepped onto the streets of Wake County and immediately transformed into an insta model. His comfort in front of the camera was next level and his energy was contagious.

The Session Breakdown We opted for an urban backdrop to match his high-energy, adventurous personality. Since he loves to travel, the city streets of downtown Raleigh felt like the perfect playground.

• Outfit 1: A simple outfit to compliment the straight lines, stone, and pops of nature in the capitol area of downtown Raleigh/
• Outfit 2: A more sleek, polished look with a jacket to compliment the rustic looks of downtown Raleigh showing off the fun brick, concrete, and glass textures of the warehouse district.

Breaking the Stigma for Senior Boys There is a long-standing myth that senior boys “endure” their photo sessions while girls “enjoy” them. I am officially calling busks on that! Juan and I had an absolute blast. Whether I am working as a Johnston County photographer or shooting in the heart of the city, I see it all the time: guys love these sessions too!

When you focus on the experience, running around the city, and finding the best light, it becomes a highlight of senior year. It is not just another chore on the to-do list. It is about celebrating who you are before you head out to see the rest of the world.
